Christian Service
One of my favorite things about God's Bible School & College, is that the learning does not only take place in the class room. I personally believe that Discipleship & Outreach go hand and hand. The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) states to "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"(emphasis mine). In this passage we have two key words; "go" and "make." Make what? Disciples, that's what! Therefore, to me the activities of outreach and discipleship go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Apparently my college feels the same way. Every month I have to turn in an assignment showing the who, what, when, where, and why of how I am serving the Lord. The drop-down windows that are attached to the above "Christian Service" option will demonstrate my service to the Lord.
In the mean time, here is the actual assignment description from my class:
God's Bible School and College has always emphasized and given opportunities for practical ministries. Christian Service assignments are a vital part of a student's educational experience at God's Bible School and College.
All ADEP students who are matriculated into a degree program are required to enroll in the CS 100: Christian Service class. Although Christian Service does not accrue academic credit, the student is required to successfully complete a specified number of Christian Service credits in order to graduate. These requirements for graduation are listed below.
Christian Service opportunities include activities such as mission work, nursing home ministry, personal evangelism, children's services, gospel team work, hospital and prison ministry, assistance to local churches, etc. One aspect of Christian service is "Community Service"- activities such as involvement in academic tutoring, community clean-up efforts, assisting the elderly, etc. These kinds of activities can count for up to 20% of your Christian Service (and should be at least 10%)
Specific requirements per semester:
The student must be involved in a minimum of 2 activities per month. The total time worked within the month must total 5 hours. In other words, you'll split the 5 hours between the 2 activities. Of course you can be involved in more than 2 activities just as long as you've completed your 5 hour requirement per month. In order to measure consistency, we ask that you not carry hours over to the next month.
The hours you count are for actual ministry hours. This means that if, for example, you play a trumpet during song service at your home church, you don't count the entire church service as part of your Christian Service hours.
You will report on your activities once per month:
You will need to get a final grade of at least 90% in order to get credit for your Christian Service. Although you’ll receive a grade for Christian Service in BrainHoney, the class actually is a credit or no credit type of class.
