Intro To Counseling
This class was the sequel to General Psychology, and much like the first class; this class did not disappoint either. This class had a lot of reading, lectures, and websites that I enjoyed very much. In addition, the discussion boards were very lively, and usually went on longer than the minimum requirements. Although I enjoyed all the material that this class used at its disposal, I believe that I enjoyed our interview assignments the most.
The following assignment was to do an interview with a pastor or counselor on the various issues of counseling. The reason that we were given this assignment was to help us understand counseling on a more personal level. The person that I interviewed is my friend and mentor Pastor Larry Dillon of Grace Pointe Community Church.

My interview was with assistant Pastor Larry Dillon of Grace Pointe Community Church in Erlanger Ky. Larry has been my friend, mentor, and counselor for over six years. I asked him the following provided questions from class.
- How important do you view counseling?
- Do you have advice on counseling? (I asked him this question in regards to a new counselor who is about to start counseling others)
- (My Question) What do you mean by reflect?
- How much time do you spend in counseling?
- What is the most frustrating aspect of counseling?
- What is the most rewarding aspect of counseling?
- You may ask anything of interest to you, or ask for any other information that they would like to give. (I asked Larry for some final advise that he would like to add)
- I also asked Larry “What if someone shares something with you in a counseling session and later that week you feel led to preach a sermon on it, after your counseling session…Do you go ahead and prepare the message and preach on it?”
- Larry concluded by saying one last thing
Teachers Feedback:
Chuck,
The pastor you interviewed is very wise. Not all the interview reports I've read in the past have been as detailed and filled with good advice. Great job!
